Smith 2026 Diversity in the International Bryozoology Association 1965-2025
Description
The International Bryozoology Association (IBA) was conceived in 1965. Sixty years on, this study considers changes in diversity and demographics. Analysis of conference photos, membership lists, and conference volumes illuminate some interesting trends in participation by women in the IBA. Here you will find the historical data that underpin analysis. The data include conference photos, conference attendance lists, proceedings covers, as well as lists of leadership and administration of the IBA. There is a spreadsheet that summarises the participation of women in the life of the society, including data from surveys conducted in 2001 and 2024. In general, the IBA has had increasing diversity in gender, research fields, background, age, and reproductive choices. It is less diverse in ethnicity and in (reported) sexuality. Free-text comments generally reflected a sense of welcoming inclusivity, which bodes well for the future of this small scientific society. Uni
