Description

This dataset contains supplementary media for the surgical pearl manuscript titled "Electrocautery-guided nail plate division to enhance precision in partial nail avulsion". Partial nail avulsion for conditions such as ingrown toenails often requires the division of the nail plate using clippers or scissors, which can necessitate significant mechanical force and result in trauma to the nail bed or matrix. The media in this dataset demonstrate a solution using electrocautery to pre-mark and attenuate the nail plate along the intended line of excision prior to avulsion. This controlled thinning facilitates the atraumatic separation of the nail plate, allowing for precise delineation of the segment to be removed and minimizing inadvertent damage. The dataset includes the complete procedural sequence: Supplementary Video 1: Demonstrates the electrocautery-assisted longitudinal scoring of the nail plate along the planned line of excision, showing controlled attenuation Supplementary Figure 1: Illustrates lateral nail plate separation using a nail elevator following the electrocautery-assisted groove creation, demonstrating controlled dissection along the pre-formed plane. Supplementary Video 2: Demonstrates the longitudinal division of the nail plate using a nail clipper following scoring with electrocautery, showing the facilitated clipping of the affected segment. Supplementary Figure 2: Shows the longitudinal division and removal of the affected nail segment using a nail clipper, facilitated by prior electrocautery-guided attenuation. Keywords : Partial nail avulsion, Electrocautery, Ingrown toenail.
