Laboratory data sets analyzed in EPSL: "Fault Heterogeneity Controls Preparatory Processes and Recurrence of Laboratory Earthquakes: From Time-Predictable to Unpredictable Failure" This repository contains the experimental data from direct shear friction experiments on binary mixtures of velocity-weakening soda-lime glass beads and velocity-strengthening quartz powder (SIL-CO-SIL 250). Seven experiments were conducted with compositions ranging from 100% to 0% glass beads (by weight), using PMMA forcing blocks and a 160 mm × 160 mm fault area at 5 µm/s loading rate. All experiment were conducted at 313 ± 15 kPa normal stress.
