Data of Aeolian Sand Movement on floodplain of the Yarlung Zangbo River
Description
To collect details of the sediment transport, we used the LDDSEG vertical segmented sediment sampler to continuously measure sediment transport to a height of 1.0 m. The sampler was designed by the Key Laboratory of Desert and Desertification, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and is widely used in sediment transport measurements in China. Field observations were conducted during strong dust events on February 9–10 and February 21, 2023. Eight integrated monitoring units were deployed along the prevailing wind fetch gradient, each equipped with vertical sediment samplers (Fig. 1H), ultrasonic anemometers (Fig. 1I) and air temperature-humidity sensors to synchronously obtain near-surface wind field and sand transport flux data. In the Nierixiong site, four sampling points (N1, N2, N3, N4) were deployed sequentially down wind along the transect across the floodplain (Fig. 1E), at distances of 5, 14.79, 37.39 and 77.89 m from the channel center, respectively. The Changguo site adopted the same down wind transect design: point C1 was set near the river bank margin of the floodplain, and points C2, C3 and C4 were arranged outward successively down wind (Fig. 1G), with distances of 5, 16, 38 and 74 m from the channel center, respectively.
