Description

We analyzed Ce isotopic compositions and Ce anomalies in modern carbonates from the South China Sea, deposited over the past 600 years, during which the redox conditions of surface seawater have remained essentially unchanged. Our results show that δ142Ce values of the studied carbonates display a relatively narrow range from 0.18‰ to 0.38‰, with an average of 0.27±0.05‰ (n = 31, 1 S.D.).
