Self-Efficacy, Competitive Anxiety, Personality and Perfectionism in Polish Equestrians: A Cross-Sectional Survey Dataset (N = 850)

Description

This dataset contains anonymised survey responses from 850 Polish equestrians (aged 18–70) collected online between July and October 2025, together with a variable dictionary. Participants reported basic demographic information (sex, age, education, place of residence) and equestrian background, including years of riding experience, the disciplines they practise (recreational riding, dressage, show jumping, endurance, eventing, western), the total number of disciplines, whether they take part in competitions, and their highest level of competition (from club/friendly to international). Four validated psychometric instruments were administered: the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES, 10 items, 4-point scale), the Sport Competition Anxiety Test (SCAT, 15 items of which 10 are scored on a 3-point scale, filler items retained but marked as unscored), the 20-item IPIP measure of the Big Five (extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, intellect/imagination, 5-point scale), and a 30-item questionnaire of perfectionism in sport yielding positive and negative perfectionism scores (5-point scale). The file contains item-level responses with reverse-keyed items already recoded (flagged with the suffix "R"), together with the computed scale and subscale totals, so that all aggregate scores can be independently reproduced from the raw items. All directly and indirectly identifying information — response timestamps, consent records and free-text answers — has been removed prior to deposit, and participants are identified only by a sequential ID. The dataset supports secondary analyses of the relationships between self-efficacy, competitive trait anxiety, personality traits and perfectionism in equestrian athletes, as well as comparisons across disciplines and competitive levels, and can be reused in meta-analyses and cross-sport comparative research.
