Description

Ambient background of a territory with a strong industrial legacy. Soils of urban green spaces were collected between April and July 2023, then analysed during 2023 - 2024. They were selected based on their location regarding the density of industry in the area and the last date of major land cover modification. The dataset provides content values of As, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mo, Ni, Pb, Ti, Zn, Al, Ba, Ca, Fe, K, Mg, and Mn in each of the 201 samples collected around and in Saint-Etienne agglomeration (France). A mean value was calculated for all elements in each park (42 sites). Type of data : tables and ESRI shapefiles

Steps to reproduce

Surface samples of urban parks were collected (0 - 10 cm, composite of 5 sub-samples). The extractions realised were : - aqua regia (pseudo-total fraction), following the ISO 11466 protocol. - calcium chloride (extractible fraction), a 0.01 M solution of CaCl2 was used, following the protocol of Houba et al. (2000). Reference materials go through the same extraction processes. The element analyses were carried out using an ICP-MS (Agilent 7800). For more details, find the method provided in the datapaper (Seillier et al., 2025) "Characterization of a city pedogeochemical background using (peri-)urban parks dataset (Saint-Etienne, Loire, France)" (to be published soon)
