Description

This dataset contains full-scale sea-trial data recorded for a Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) MITO 31, a two-stepped high-speed planing craft. The dataset includes raw IMU/GNSS and NMEA2000 log files, processed time histories, summary tables, environmental-condition metadata, figures, and Python scripts used for post-processing. The sea-trial data include three selected operating conditions: a zero-speed free-drift record, a high-speed straight-running seakeeping interval, and two turning manoeuvres. The processed quantities include pitch, roll, heading, velocity components, GNSS trajectory, engine RPM, acceleration components, yaw-rate quantities, and turning-circle parameters. The repository is organized into raw data, processed data, summary tables, metadata, processing scripts, and figures. The dataset can be reused for validation of numerical simulations, manoeuvring analysis, seakeeping analysis, signal-processing studies, and comparison with CFD or other prediction methods for high-speed planing craft.

Files

Steps to reproduce

1. Download and extract the repository ZIP file. 2. Use the files in `01_raw_data/` as the original sea-trial measurement records. The raw data include IMU/GNSS logs and NMEA2000 logs for the zero-speed free-drift record, the high-speed seakeeping interval, and the turning manoeuvres. 3. Use the scripts in `05_processing_scripts/` to reproduce the post-processing workflow. The scripts parse the raw log files, select the analysis windows, convert GNSS positions to local coordinates, unwrap heading/yaw angle, calculate yaw rate and turning-circle parameters, extract engine RPM statistics, and generate figures. 4. The main processed outputs are provided in `02_processed_data/` as Excel and CSV files. These files contain the processed time histories used for the analysis. 5. The reduced summary tables are provided in `03_summary_tables/` and `04_metadata/`. These include vessel/test-condition properties, environmental-condition estimates, selected analysis windows, turning parameters, RPM statistics, and acceleration statistics. 6. The generated figures are provided in `06_figures/`. These figures document the selected time windows, local GNSS tracks, velocity and acceleration checks, turning manoeuvre comparison, RPM statistics, and acceleration components. 7. To reproduce the workflow, run the Python scripts using the repository folder as the working directory. The processed data, summary tables, and figures can then be compared with the files already provided in the repository.
