Description

This dataset provides the numerical inputs, reference-case results, numerical verification results, local heat- and mass-transfer profiles, and parametric results supporting the manuscript “A Coupled Heat and Mass Transfer Model for Counter-Flow Heat Recovery from Saturated Airflow in Building Ventilation Systems.” The model describes sensible and latent heat transfer, water-vapor condensation, condensate-film development, and film thermal resistance in a counter-flow plate heat exchanger operating with saturated exhaust air. Horizontal and vertical downward-flow configurations are considered. The dataset also includes literature-comparison information used to assess the physical consistency of predicted condensation and condensate-film trends with previously published numerical and experimental studies. These literature comparisons are provided as supporting evidence and do not constitute direct quantitative validation because the exchanger geometries and boundary conditions differ. All reported results are numerical model predictions; no new experimental measurements are included.

Steps to reproduce

The numerical results were obtained by solving the coupled heat- and mass-transfer equations described in the associated manuscript. The counter-flow two-point boundary-value problem was solved using an iterative shooting procedure with fourth-order Runge–Kutta integration. The reference cases used 1600 axial computational elements, while the parametric calculations used 800 elements following grid-independence verification. Model inputs and assumptions are provided in the “Inputs” and “Model Notes” worksheets. Numerical verification is documented in the “Verification” worksheet. Full local solutions for the horizontal and vertical downward-flow reference cases are provided in the corresponding reference worksheets, and the calculated parametric cases are provided in the parametric worksheets. The equations, boundary conditions, thermophysical-property relations, and numerical procedure required to reproduce the calculations are described in the associated manuscript.
