Description

This resource corresponds to a non-formal training program entitled “Cultural Management of Street Knowledge”, developed as part of an exercise in Social Appropriation of Knowledge (SAC) between the Faculty of Psychology of the Cooperative University of Colombia (Cali Campus) and the youth collective Conciencia Hip Hop Colombia, within the framework of the research project “Symmetrical Analysis of Social Networks in the Scene of Community Work in Communes 15 and 18 of the City of Cali” (INV2967). The diploma course was collaboratively designed and implemented by university professors and young members of the collective, who actively participated in thematic planning, methodological construction, and continuous evaluation of the training process. This SAC exercise integrated academic and popular knowledge, recognizing urban art as a tool for social transformation, community strengthening, and the situated production of knowledge within local territories.

The diploma was developed through a participatory and collaborative process between professors and young members of the cultural collective Conciencia Hip Hop Colombia. This initiative, framed within a Social Appropriation of Knowledge (SAK) exercise, aimed to bridge academic and community-based knowledge through dialogue, co-creation, and experiential learning. The process unfolded in several stages integrating academic design, community dialogue, and methodological innovation, promoting equitable relationships between university and community actors. Initial Diagnosis and Joint Planning The process began with meetings between the Faculty of Psychology at the Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia (Cali Campus) and the Conciencia Hip Hop collective. These sessions identified the needs and expectations of young people regarding cultural management and artistic practices. From these dialogues emerged a shared view of art as a tool for social transformation and collective empowerment, defining the themes and pedagogical principles of the diploma. Co-Design of the Training Structure Professors and young artists jointly designed the academic structure, defining modules, competencies, and learning outcomes. The flexible curriculum combined theory and practice, linking community psychology and cultural studies with workshops on project management, communication, and artistic expression. Pedagogical and Methodological Approach A dialogical and experiential methodology was adopted, based on popular education and participatory action research. Emphasis was placed on recognizing street knowledge—rooted in lived experience and art—as a valid form of knowledge. Participants co-created materials and activities reflecting their territorial realities, connecting reflection and practice. Implementation and Monitoring The diploma was delivered through workshops, fieldwork, and creative labs that encouraged collaborative learning. Continuous feedback among students, professors, and collective members ensured flexibility and improvement, strengthening shared responsibility for the process. Final Projects and Reflection Each participant developed a final project linked to their artistic or community initiative, aimed at strengthening local entrepreneurship and expanding the social impact of urban art. Final presentations, discussed collectively, fostered reflection and exchange. Systematization and Outcomes The closing phase focused on documenting and analyzing the pedagogical experience, identifying lessons, challenges, and innovations. The process generated insights for future community training and reinforced the university’s role in co-creating knowledge with local actors.
