Argentina, Brazil and USA Soy Bean Competitive Indexes (Lafay Index and Revealed Comparative Advantage Index).
Description
Soybean production has been an important factor in the economic growth of its world's three largest producers. The production, import and export of soybeans by the United States, Brazil and Argentina has been increasing in recent years, which has given them a competitive advantage in the market. By calculating these indicators, the comparative advantages and disadvantages of soybean trade are revealed, as well as the comparative advantage that these countries have in soybean production. Here we show that the production and export of soya in the world's leading countries are important factors in their economic growth. By applying the Lafay Index to data obtained from the USA, Brazil and Argentina, we identify the comparative advantages that allow the three countries studied to be leading soybean exporters. Furthermore, by applying the IVCRE to the data collected for this study, we conclude that the US, Brazil and Argentina have a trade advantage in soybeans to China and the world. Our results demonstrate the economic importance of soybean production and exports for these three countries. Indexes has been calculated from information from the FAO (FAOSTAT).
