Description

Carotenoid concentration data for 17 unique carotenoids measured in Oophaga pumilio skin. Frog skin samples also include Bd treatment group (Bd-Infected (frogs infected with Batrachochytrium dendrobatids) or Control (frogs mock-infected)) and sex (male and female). Excel sheet 1 contains all data for all frogs. Excel Sheet 2 groups certain carotenoid concentrations for multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) and two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) analyses. Excel Sheet 3 puts the data from the first Excel sheet into a format conducive for running a non-metric multidimensional scaling (NMDS).

Steps to reproduce

Excel Sheet 2 groups certain carotenoid concentrations for multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) and two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) analyses. The Xanthophylls, Canthaxanthins, Echinenone and Beta Carotene were used in the Type II factorial MANOVA as dependent variables with Bd treatment and Sex as fixed effects. The sum concentration of all 17 carotenoids was generated by summing all the data per frog Excel Sheet 1, and the square root sum concentration of all 17 carotenoids was generated by square-rooting the sum concentration. We used the square root sum concentration values in a two-way ANOVA as the dependent variable and Bd treatment and sex as fixed effects. Data analyses can be reproduced in R studio.
