Description

This study used a qualitative historical-descriptive research design to examine the socio-cultural history of religion in Naval, Biliran. The historical method was used to examine past events, religious developments, and cultural influences that shaped religious practices and traditions in the municipality. The descriptive method was used to demonstrate and interpret the socio-cultural contributions of religion to the community. This design was considered appropriate because the study focused on understanding historical experiences, religious traditions, and cultural developments through documentary analysis and oral narratives.

The study was conducted using a qualitative historical-descriptive research approach to examine the socio-cultural history of religion in Naval. Data were gathered through document analysis, oral narratives, and interviews with selected participants knowledgeable about the religious and cultural history of the municipality. Historical documents, church records, archived materials, books, journal articles, and government publications were collected from libraries, local archives, and online sources such as the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), and Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). Purposive sampling was used in selecting local historians, religious leaders, elders, and community members who provided relevant historical information and oral accounts related to religion and socio-cultural traditions in Naval, Biliran. The researcher utilized a semi-structured interview guide containing open-ended questions focused on historical developments, religious traditions, cultural practices, and community influences of religion. Interviews and oral narratives were documented, organized, and transcribed for analysis. Thematic analysis was employed to identify recurring themes, patterns, and socio-cultural influences derived from the gathered data. Historical records and narratives were carefully compared and validated to ensure accuracy and reliability of information. The workflow of the study included data collection, organization of historical sources, interview transcription, thematic categorization, interpretation of findings, and formulation of conclusions and recommendations.
