Description

The .csv file presents the monthly suspended sediment transport (SST, in tons) of the Pirapó River, southern Brazil, from August 1980 to July 2022. The .kml file indicates the location of the Pirapó River basin.

The monthly suspended sediment transport (SST) of the Pirapó River (southern Brazil) was estimated based on two variables: river discharge (Q) and suspended sediment concentration (SSC). Discharge data were obtained from the Brazilian National Water Agency (ANA) for two gauging stations: Vila Silva Jardim (VSJ, code 64550000) and UHE Rosana Itaguajé (UHE, code 64560000). The UHE station was used as the reference station; however, discharge records are only available from 2000 onward. Given a 21-year period of overlapping operation between the two stations, data from VSJ were used to estimate streamflow at UHE. The SSC dataset was composed of in situ measurements and remote-sensing-derived estimates. The in situ dataset, also obtained from ANA, comprises 2,438 daily observations. Additionally, 585 SSC estimates were derived from Landsat sensors, resulting in a total dataset of 3,023 values. The discharge (Q) series is continuous from August 1980 to July 2022, whereas the SSC series contains 18.32% missing values. These gaps were imputed using the R package imputeTS. Given the seasonal nature of the SSC series, the na_seadec method (Seasonally Decomposed Missing Value Imputation) was selected.
