Duty-cycle-based battery sizing and well-to-wheel emissions for diesel and electric narrow tractors in vineyards
Description
This dataset contains derived tables and scenario results (diesel baseline and BEV charging mixes). Raw CAN-bus duty-cycle data are available in the related Mendeley Data dataset (DOI: 10.17632/y3h5xzkjc6.2). Overview This repository provides processed/derived tables supporting the analysis of: 1) battery feasibility (coverage) for battery-electric narrow tractors across vineyard activities, and 2) well-to-wheel (WTW) greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for diesel vs. electric operation under alternative electricity power sources (photovoltaic/agrivoltaics and EU grid). All files are provided in CSV format for easy reuse. Related datasets and manuscript - Related raw duty-cycle dataset (CAN-bus / operations): DOI: 10.17632/y3h5xzkjc6.2 - Associated manuscript: coming soon. File list (CSV) 1) Battery feasibility.csv - Overall feasibility/coverage results for each battery size considered (e.g., 36/60/150/300 kWh). - Typical outputs: share of operations and/or area covered, and related summary indicators. 2) Battery feasibility by field activity.csv - Feasibility/coverage results broken down by field activity. - Useful to identify which tasks are limiting for smaller battery packs. 3) Statistics by field activity.csv - Descriptive statistics by activity (e.g., power demand metrics, energy per area, operational shares). - Provides the activity-level baseline used to interpret feasibility and emissions. 4) Records with energy demand and GHG.csv - Record-level dataset with energy demand and associated GHG results. - Includes diesel baseline and electric scenarios (e.g., EU-grid mix, PV/APV charging), enabling aggregation by activity, by week/season, or by operation. 5) GHG by field activity.csv - Aggregated WTW GHG results by field activity for diesel and electric scenarios. - Typical outputs: total and intensity indicators (e.g., per hour, per hectare). Definitions and units - Energy: kWh (electrical) and/or kWh-equivalent as reported in the tables. - GHG emissions: kg CO2e (WTW), with intensity metrics such as kg CO2e/h and kg CO2e/ha where applicable. - “Feasibility/coverage”: percentage of operations (and/or worked area) that can be completed with a given battery size under the assumptions described in the manuscript (e.g., minimum SOC reserve). Assumptions Battery sizing and emissions results depend on the assumptions described in the associated manuscript. Key assumptions typically include: - Minimum SOC reserve (e.g., 10%) - Electric drivetrain efficiency (e.g., 85%) - Electricity supply scenarios (e.g., EU-grid average; PV/APV-based charging) - WTW boundary consistency across diesel and electricity pathways For full details, please refer to the manuscript Methods section.
