Data submitted to this repository includes the RAW data acquired from QENS at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. We measured the fractions of bound and free water, diffusivity, and relaxation times of free and bound intracellular water in E. coli incubated in PBS containing 0 M, 1 M, or 2 M NaCl. E. coli expressing AfLEA1 was compared to uninduced controls and to E. coli expressing p26, a sHSP from the same species. We conducted a bacterial desiccation assay and found that E. coli expressing AfLEA1 had significantly greater viability after 5 days of drying than uninduced control strains. The data for this experiment is included, and contains the original bacterial counts as well as calculations for viability.
