Description

The dataset provides an elaborated description of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) dataset, which includes data collected from five states in Nigeria which represents different geopolitical zones. The dataset is separated into individual state-specific Excel files and a consolidated CSV file, which allows for both granular and comprehensive analysis. This dataset as earlier mentioned presents responses from a structured survey carried out among adults in five Nigerian states which are Oyo, Kwara, Abuja (FCT), Osun, and Kogi which is targeted at measuring the level of awareness, vaccination status, and information sources when it comes to Human Papillomavirus (HPV). Each state's dataset contains 462 entries and captures sociodemographic parameters such as sex, age, marital status, religion, education level, and profession. In addition, the dataset includes responses relating to HPV vaccine reception, willingness to be vaccinated, awareness of HPV transmission routes, and the perception of its contagious nature.

Steps to reproduce

A cross sectional quantitative survey was distributed using questionnaires through structured interviews and self administration, within a 3–6 month period. The study targeted adults aged 18 years and above in five states in Nigeria namely: Lagos, Kwara, FCT, Osun, and Oyo, including both males and females from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, minors, non-residents, and unwilling participants were excluded. A multistage sampling technique was used, starting with random state selection stratified by geopolitical zones, followed by random selection of urban and rural LGAs, cluster sampling within communities, and finally convenience or random sampling of eligible adults. The sample size was also calculated using prevalence estimates, such as 50% HPV awareness, to ensure maximum variability.
