Description

This dataset contains raw proxy data from the 330 cm peat sequence from Bog Bažu, a coastal peatland located in northwestern Latvia (3 km from the Baltic Sea) (Slitere National Park; 57°41'39.7"N, 22°26'38.9"E). The dataset includes sand grain counts, macroscopic charcoal counts, information on lithology, loss-on-ignition results and 14C dates. Temporal coverage spans approximately 5400 years BP to AD 2019.

Steps to reproduce

Peat samples were collected from a 330 cm core at Bog Bažu using a peat corer/auger (instorf). Subsamples were taken at 1 cm subsequent intervals for laboratory analyses. Loss-on-ignition was done in two steps ((1) - heated 105 ˚C for 12 h and (2) - heated 550 ˚C for 4 h)), macroscopic charcoal (>160 um) was counted and classified under a stereomicroscope after NaOCl treatment, and all quartz sand grains per sample (>160 um) were counted. Terrestrial macrofossils were dated by AMS 14C. All raw results were compiled into the Excel file BazuBogLatviaData_v1.xlsx.
