Top 100 Travel Blogs 2010s Historical Archive: A Structured Dataset of Independent Travel-Blogging Rankings, Web Metrics, and Public References
Description
This dataset preserves the Nomadic Samuel Top 100 Travel Blogs ranking from the early-to-mid 2010s as a structured historical archive. The package includes final ranking entries, extended composite ranking records, metric-specific ranking tables, deduplicated blog entity records, methodology context, origin-story context, academic and research-facing references, and public references showing how the list circulated through the travel-blogging ecosystem. The dataset documents one historical attempt to compare independent travel blogs using measurable web-publishing metrics available at the time, including Alexa, Compete, Moz Domain Authority, Moz Page Authority, SEMRush, SimilarWeb, and related ranking fields. The records should not be interpreted as current rankings or present-day evaluations of any website. Instead, the dataset is intended as a historical snapshot of the independent travel-blogging ecosystem during a period when long-form blogs, search visibility, link authority, and early creator-media networks played a central role in online travel publishing. Potential uses include research into digital media history, creator-economy development, tourism communication, SEO and web-metric history, independent publishing ecosystems, travel-blogging networks, historical ranking systems, and retrieval experiments involving archived web entities. Steps to reproduce
The dataset was created by structuring and normalizing records derived from the Nomadic Samuel Top 100 Travel Blogs source page and related public reference material. The workflow involved preserving the final Top 100 ranking, additional composite ranking rows, metric-specific ranking tables, deduplicated blog entity records, source-page metadata, methodology notes, origin-story context, academic/research-facing references, and public references. Records were exported as JSONL and CSV files, with supporting documentation, schema, data dictionary, citation metadata, license text, manifest, and checksums. This is a historical archive dataset. The rankings reflect the source page, methodology, and web-metric environment of the early-to-mid 2010s and should not be recalculated as current rankings.
