GENETIC VARIABILITY AMONG CRYSTAL MAIZE (Zea mays L.) INBRED LINES DURING GERMINATION AND EARLY SEEDLING GROWTH UNDER SIMULATED DROUGHT STRESS
Description
This dataset supports the manuscript entitled “Assessment of Genetic Variability among Crystal Maize (Zea mays L.) Inbred Lines during Germination and Early Seedling Growth under Simulated Drought Stress”, which is currently under consideration for publication in Cogent Food & Agriculture. The study was conducted to test the hypothesis that significant genetic variability exists among crystal maize inbred lines in their tolerance to drought stress during germination and early seedling growth. Data were collected from 30 inbred lines evaluated under controlled drought-stress conditions using polyethylene glycol (PEG) and moisture-deficit treatments. The dataset includes germination, morphological, physiological, and biomass-related traits, such as germination percentage, germination rate, seedling vigor, root and shoot growth, chlorophyll content, stomatal conductance, relative water content, and biomass measurements. It also contains calculated drought-tolerance indices and genetic parameters used for genotype evaluation. The data demonstrate substantial variation in drought responses among the evaluated inbred lines, indicating considerable genetic diversity for drought tolerance. Several genotypes showed superior performance and stability under stress conditions, highlighting their potential use in maize breeding programs targeting drought-prone environments. This dataset can be used to assess genetic variability, evaluate drought-tolerance traits, investigate genotype-by-environment interactions, and support future breeding, genetic, and crop improvement studies. The data are provided to ensure transparency, reproducibility, and accessibility of the research findings reported in the associated manuscript.
