Supplementary Coding Data: The Politics of the Terrorism Label — Perpetrator Identity and Differential Framing in US and UK News Coverage, 2014–2023

This dataset provides the full coding scheme, item-level corpus, and summary statistics underlying the study "The Politics of the Terrorism Label: Perpetrator Identity and Differential Framing in US and UK News Coverage, 2014–2023," submitted to Critical Studies on Terrorism (Taylor & Francis). It contains 120 news items (2014–2023) drawn from six major US and UK outlets (The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN, BBC News, The Guardian, and Fox News), coded for terrorism labelling, psychological/individualist framing, perpetrator identity, and casualty count. The file includes: (1) a Cover sheet with variable definitions and sampling notes; (2) two corpus sheets separating Muslim-attributed (n=60) and white/Christian-attributed (n=60) perpetrator items; (3) a Summary_Statistics sheet with aggregate frequencies, χ² test results, and inter-rater reliability figures; and (4) a GTD_Context sheet with Global Terrorism Database annual trend data (START, 2022) used as background context. Data were compiled through manual content-analytic coding by the author, with formal inter-rater reliability checks reported in the Summary_Statistics sheet.
