This study employs a prospective design with three time points and utilizes a cross-lagged structural equation model to examine the bidirectional relationship between sleep quality and job burnout among Chinese underground coal miners, with a focus on the mediating role of self-control. The findings highlight the prevalence of sleep quality issues and job burnout among Chinese coal miners, particularly among younger miners. A significant longitudinal impact of sleep quality on job burnout was observed, with self-control playing a crucial mediating role.
