Scottish wild seaweeds were analysed for their mineral and heavy metal content to identify those species with levels of minerals containing low levels of heavy metals which could be utilised as significant sources of plant-based dietary relevant minerals.

Steps to reproduce
Seaweeds were dried under vacuum and then underwent microwave-assisted digestion in Nitric Acid before being analysed by inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) for mineral levels. Mineral values are expressed as milligram (mg) or microgram (ug) per kg dried weight.
