This dataset is for the study on COVID-19 death that may vary across countries of different political regimes.

Steps to reproduce

Total deaths per million population, total tests per million population, the share of tests that are positive, and stringency index are from Hannah, et al. (2020). These variables are daily based. The following annual-based variable are used as control variables: Press freedom index in 2020 is from the Reporters Without Borders (RSF, 2021). Government cohesion in 2019 is from ICRG (2021). Domestic private health expenditure per capita, PPP (current international $) in 2019 and GDP per capita (2010 US$) in 2019 are from the World Development Indicators (World Bank, 2021 ). Human Development index in 2019 is from the United Nations Development Programme’s Human Development Reports (UNDP, 2021).
