Description

This package contains the data and code to reproduce all tables and figures in "The Solar-Inclusion Gap: Distributive Energy Justice and Distributed Solar Adoption in Brazil, 2018–2023." The dataset is a balanced municipality-month panel covering the universe of 5,571 Brazilian municipalities over 72 months (January 2018–December 2023), for 401,112 observations. It integrates distributed solar micro/mini-generation (MMGD) records, low-income electricity-subsidy (CDE/TSEE) beneficiary records, residential and low-income tariffs, DEC/FEC service-reliability indicators, subsystem-level power-system context, all-sky solar irradiance, and municipal population, harmonized to a common monthly structure. Sources: ANEEL, ONS, IBGE, and NASA POWER. The code (Stata) reproduces the two-way fixed-effects estimates, robustness checks, regional heterogeneity, and the supplementary descriptive, multicollinearity, and diagnostic tables. Data are provided in Stata (.dta) and open (.parquet) formats, with a variable crosswalk and a README documenting structure, software requirements, and step-by-step reproduction.

Steps to reproduce

All do-files use RELATIVE paths, so the package runs from any location. 1. Download and unzip this package, keeping the folder structure (a top-level folder containing /data and /code). 2. Open Stata. 3. Set Stata's working directory to the top-level package folder: File > Change working directory... (select the unzipped folder) or, from the command line: cd "your/path/to/this/package" 4. Run any do-file, for example: do "code/06_table1_incremental.do" Each do-file is self-contained: it loads the data, runs the models, and writes its outputs to outputs/stata/. They can be run in any order, or in numeric order (01, 02, 03, 03b, 04, 05, 06, 07). Results (.rtf and .csv tables, plus .log files) are written to outputs/stata/, which the code creates automatically.
