Description

These are the raw data to support the conclusions of the accompanying article. They document the impact of environmental stresses on the balance between fecundity and survival in the malaria vector Anopheles gambiae. The data support a mechanism by which investment in egg production is curtailed under stress conditions through the inhibition of ecdysteroid production following a blood meal by the stress-activated protein kinase, JNK (c-Jun N-terminal kinase). The data presented here include: The original western blots documenting the activation of JNK in the reproductive tracts of stressed vs unstressed females after blood feeding. In these cases the same samples were blotted for activated (phopsphorylated) JNK (pJNK) as a read out of stress signalling, actin as a loading control and in many cases, activated (phosphorylated) S6 kinase (pS6K) as a read out of growth signaling. Original data defining the impact of stresses on fecundity (number of eggs developed) and survival and the effect on those traits of depleting JNK through RNA interference. qRT relative expression data (delta delta CT) for genes of interest from reproductive tract samples from blood-fed or unfed, JNK-depleted or control females. Original data of the quantification by MS/MS or ELISA of ecdysteroid levels in methanol extracts of pools of stressed or unstressed whole females.
