Effect of Social Media and Smoking Addiction on Anxiety Levels in Individuals Emerging Adulthood
Description
Effect of Social Media and Smoking Addiction on Anxiety Levels in Individuals Emerging Adulthood Background: It was designed to examine the effects of social media use and cigarette addiction on anxiety levels in individuals emerging into adulthood. Methods: The Young Internet Addiction Test-Short Form (YIAT-SF) was used to assess individuals' levels of addiction to social media. The Smoking Psychological Dependence Assessment Scale (SPDAS) was used to assess levels of psychological dependence on cigarettes. The Beck Anxiety Inventory (BDI) was used to assess anxiety levels. Results: A total of 191 participants were included, with mean scores of YIAT-Sf = 28.53 ± 8.33, SPDAS = 13.82 ± 9.42, and BDI = 31.31 ± 12.00. There was a moderately positive correlation between BDI and YIAT-Sf (r = 0.352, p < .001) and a weakly positive correlation between SPDAS and BDI (r = 0.266, p < .001) . There was a weak but statistically significant positive correlation between YIAT-Sf and SPDAS (r = 0.194, p = 0.007). Simple linear regression analysis showed a significant relationship between BDI and YIAT-Sf in Model 1 (F =26.928, p < .001) and between BDI and SPDAS in Model 2 (F =14.513, p < .001). Model 4's multiple regression analysis revealed a significant relationship among BDI, YIAT-Sf, and SPDAS (F = 18.658, p < .001). Conclusion: A moderate positive correlation was found between social media addiction and anxiety levels, and a weak positive correlation was found between smoking addiction levels and anxiety levels. It was found that social media addiction and smoking addiction are associated with anxiety levels in individuals Emerging Adulthood
