Description

The Bangladesh Initial Teacher Education (ITE) Dataset is a mixed-methods dataset developed to examine experiences, perceptions, practices, and institutional conditions within Initial Teacher Education in Bangladesh. The dataset brings together quantitative survey data, qualitative interview evidence, and structured observation records, allowing researchers to explore teacher education from multiple perspectives. The quantitative component contains survey responses from **120 participants** representing **12 participating institutions**. To protect confidentiality, the institutions are anonymised using codes from **I01 to I12**, representing Institution 1 to Institution 12. Participants are also identified through anonymous codes rather than personal names. The survey includes demographic and background information together with Likert-scale items designed to measure different aspects of teacher-education experiences, institutional support, teaching and learning practices, professional preparation, and related perceptions. The qualitative component contains information from **48 interview participants**. These interviews were used to explore participants' experiences and views in greater depth and to provide explanations for patterns identified in the quantitative data. The qualitative material included in the workbook has been organised into relevant themes and categories. Where applicable, the interview evidence is presented as anonymised and paraphrased material rather than full verbatim transcripts. The dataset also includes **24 structured observation records**. These observations provide additional contextual evidence about teaching and learning practices, institutional environments, classroom-related activities, and the implementation of Initial Teacher Education. All data were checked, cleaned, coded, and organised into a structured Excel workbook. Participant and institution identifiers were standardised across the dataset, and identifying information was removed to protect confidentiality. Because the dataset combines survey, interview, and observation evidence, it can support **quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods analysis**. Possible uses include descriptive statistics, comparison across participant groups or institutions, thematic analysis, integration of quantitative and qualitative findings, and research on the quality, challenges, and development of Initial Teacher Education in Bangladesh.

Steps to reproduce

The Bangladesh Initial Teacher Education (ITE) Dataset was prepared through a mixed-methods data collection and organisation process. The main steps were as follows: **Step 1: Define the study population** The study focused on participants involved in Initial Teacher Education in Bangladesh. Twelve participating institutions were included and anonymised as Institution 1 to Institution 12 to protect institutional identity. **Step 2: Develop the research instruments** Three main instruments were prepared: a structured survey questionnaire, a semi-structured interview guide, and a structured observation form. The instruments were designed to collect information on participants' experiences, perceptions, practices, and institutional conditions related to teacher education. **Step 3: Conduct the survey** Survey responses were collected from 120 participants across the 12 institutions. Each participant was assigned an anonymous identification code. The questionnaire included demographic/background information and Likert-scale items measuring different aspects of Initial Teacher Education. **Step 4: Conduct interviews** A qualitative subsample of 48 participants was selected for interviews. The interviews explored participants' experiences and perspectives in greater depth. Interview information included in the dataset was anonymised and organised according to relevant themes. The qualitative entries represent paraphrased evidence rather than full verbatim interview transcripts. **Step 5: Conduct observations** Twenty-four structured observation records were collected to provide additional evidence about teaching, learning, institutional practices, and the implementation of teacher-education activities. **Step 6: Anonymise the data** Personally identifiable information and institution names were removed or replaced with codes. Institution codes such as I01–I12 represent the 12 participating institutions. **Step 7: Clean and organise the data** The collected information was checked for consistency, missing values, coding errors, duplicate records, and formatting problems. Variables and participant codes were standardised across the different parts of the dataset. **Step 8: Prepare the final workbook** The cleaned quantitative survey data, qualitative interview information, observation records, coding information, and supporting sheets were organised into a single Excel workbook. The final dataset is structured to support quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods analysis while maintaining participant confidentiality.
