Description

This dataset provides the results of three samples of French university students (Angers University) to 5 personality tests: IPO, PDQ-4+, PANAS, AQ and HADS. These three studies were approved by the research ethics committee of Angers University. Data were collected from November 26, 2021 to February 19, 2022 for Studies 1 and 2. Data collection for Study 3 ended on September 31, 2022. The first part of this dataset comprise 602 first- and second-year psychology students: 112 men, 486 women, and 4 participants of unspecified gender (Mean age = 19.40 years / SD = 1.95). It is composed of two separate samples: 269 first-year students (Sample 1 = Study 1 Sample 1.xlsx) and 333 second-year (Sample 2 = Study 1 Sample 2.xlsx). The first part gives the scores obtained by students to the Inventory of Personality Organization (Kernberg). The IPO assesses three components of personality, namely Primitive psychological Defenses (PD = 16 items), Identity Diffusion (ID = 20 items), and Reality Testing (RT= 21 items). Personality disorders manifest themselves in high levels of one or more of these three dimensions (scales). The second part of this dataset (Study 2 = Study 2.xlsx) is consisted of 305 students from different departments at the University of Angers. It is composed of 63 men and 242 women, with a mean age of 19.83 years (SD = 2.12). It offers the results of this sample to the three scales (PD/ID/RT) of the French translation of the IPO and to the French versions of the following tests: Personality Diagnostic Questionnaire-4+ (PDQ-4+), Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS), Aggression Questionnaire (AQ), and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). Studies 1 and 2 were used to develop and validate the French version of the IPO in 40 items and 2 scales (PD-ID/RT): the IPO-fr. In the third part (= Study 3), respondents are 182 first- and second-year students from the Department of Psychology and 425 first- and second-year students from the Departments of Arts and humanities (Mage = 19.38, SD = 1.93). Study 3 contains (1) Responses from 607 French young adults to each item of the IPO-fr, (2) Responses obtained by the same 607 respondents to the French PDQ-4+ (self-report questionnaire and Clinical significance scale), and (3) Basic demographic information (gender and age) collected for all respondents. For the IPO-fr, scores on the PD/ID and RT scales were calculated by summing participants' scores on the items in each scale. The total score consists of the sum of participants' scores on the PD/ID and RT scales. A codebook containing the French version of the PDQ-4+ and the IPO-fr is included in this dataset. This Version 4 of the dataset enhances the content of this codebook 1) by providing an English translation of the validated French version of the IPO and 2) by offering both in the French version and in its English translation an explicit link between the items in this questionnaire and the variables in the dataset.
