Purpose, Altruism and Servant Leadership
Description
In this research, we explored whether having a sense of purpose in life leads to the emergence of servant leadership indirectly through altruism. Our sample comprises 400 cadets of India’s National Cadet Corps. The data collection was based on the use of validated measures of purpose, altruism, and servant leadership. The confirmatory factor analysis suggested that the measurement model functioned properly, and the findings of the mediation analysis conducted in the SPSS PROCESS macro with bootstrapping procedure indicated that purpose is positively related to altruism and altruism is positively related to servant leadership. The mediation analysis also illustrated that the relationship between purpose and servant leadership was not direct, and altruism mediated the relationship between purpose and servant leadership. The findings indicate that a sense of purpose in life is positively associated with altruism, which in turn positively relates to servant leadership.
