Data for Exploring drivers of Cloud Condensation Nuclei in the Indian Sector of the Southern Ocean
Description
Dataset Description This folder contains datasets collected and processed during the 12th Indian Scientific Expedition to the Southern Ocean (SOE-12) and used for the investigation of Cloud Condensation Nuclei (CCN) variability. Files included: • Data Description.txt - Details of all the files in this dataset • gpsdata.pkl – Ship GPS data containing date, time (UTC), latitude, longitude, and vessel position information. • Surface_Chla_SOE12.xlsx – In situ surface chlorophyll-a measurements collected at oceanographic sampling stations during SOE-12. • satellite_chl.pkl – satellite-derived chlorophyll-a dataset corresponding to the SOE-12 study period. The dataset was used to calculate air-mass chlorophyll-a exposure along HYSPLIT back trajectories and to generate spatial distribution maps of chlorophyll-a over the Southern Ocean. • chl_wind_extraction_trajectory.xlsx – Dataset containing chlorophyll a concentration, wind speed, and wind direction extracted along HYSPLIT back trajectories. The extracted parameters were used to calculate chlorophyll a and wind exposure for different trajectory durations and to investigate their relationship with cloud condensation nuclei. • filtered_ccn.pkl – Quality-controlled Cloud Condensation Nuclei (CCN) measurements at different supersaturation levels. • CDNC_filtered.csv – Filtered Cloud Droplet Number Concentration (CDNC) dataset used for analysis. • df_aps_20250211.pkl – Aerosol Particle Sizer (APS) measurements containing particle size distribution and concentration data. • awsdata.pkl – Onboard Automatic Weather Station (AWS) observations containing meteorological parameters measured continuously along the cruise track, including wind speed, wind direction, temperature, humidity, and pressure. • BC6_data.pkl – Continuous black carbon (BC) measurements from the shipborne Aethalometer collected during SOE 12. The dataset was used for quality control and filtering of CCN observations by identifying periods influenced by local contamination and ship emissions.
