Description
This dataset contains the search record, screening decisions, model prompts and data extraction matrix for the critical review titled "Beyond the Tailpipe: A Critical Review of Competing Visions of Net Zero Transport." The review is a critical review conducted as a critical interpretive synthesis. It examines how the literature on net zero transport bounds its object, across three substantive dimensions and one cross-cutting lens: 1. Ontological boundaries and framing 2. Material constraints and life-cycle realities 3. Institutional structures and corporate adaptation 4. Societal outcomes and mobility justice (cross-cutting) The dataset includes every Boolean string as executed in Web of Science and Scopus, with the database, execution date, date restriction and yield at each screening stage; the PRISMA-aligned funnel from 2,515 identified records to a synthesis corpus of 81; the Stage 2 screening decision and stated reason for each of the 170 records assessed; the two prompts issued to large language models at screening and at extraction, reproduced verbatim; and the seventeen-field extraction and synthesis matrix for the final corpus. Dimensional engagement is recorded as a coded variable rather than applied as an exclusion criterion. All 165 records in the mapped corpus carry a sub-domain coding: the 83 taken to full text are coded at field level from the extraction matrix, and the 82 engaging a single sub-domain are coded from the screening record and adjudicated by the lead author. The two codings rest on different evidence and are not interchangeable. The synthesis corpus of 81 is the set read in full.

Steps to Reproduce / Methodology: The review is a critical review conducted as a critical interpretive synthesis. PRISMA-style flow reporting is adopted as a transparency practice, not because the review is a systematic review. Search strategy: three phases across Web of Science and Scopus. Phase 1 (exploratory, 27 March 2026) applied no date restriction. Phase 2 (refined, 4-5 May 2026) restricted results to 2015-2025 and combined a common baseline string with four domain-specific keyword clusters. Phase 3 (11 September 2026) was a boundary test of the Phase 1 and Phase 2 anchor terms against adjacent demand-side vocabulary; its records are reported but are not part of the synthesis corpus. Every string as executed is given in Supplementary Table S1. Screening: 1. Identification: 2,515 records. 2. Deduplication: 1,052 removed, leaving 1,463. 3. Stage 1, manual title and abstract screening by the lead author: 170 retained. 4. Stage 2, assisted screening. The metadata of those 170 were assessed independently by Google Gemini 3.1 Pro as a second screener against the same criteria, with the lead author adjudicating every judgement. No exclusion was enacted on the model's output alone. The model disagreed on five records, all confirmed as excluded, leaving 165. Decisions and stated reasons for all 170 are in Supplementary Table S2; the prompt is in Supplementary Material S3. 5. Stage 3, dimensional coding of all 165 records against four analytical sub-domains. Dimensional engagement is a coded variable and not an exclusion criterion: nothing is removed from the corpus on this basis. 6. Stage 4, full-text retrieval for the 83 records engaging two or more sub-domains, extracted against a seventeen-field matrix. Two were excluded as not in English. 7. Two nested corpora are reported: a mapped corpus of 165 coded at metadata level, and a synthesis corpus of 81 read in full.
