Experimental Database for Lateral-Torsional Buckling of Built-Up I-Section Members
Description
This database is a compilation of experimental data for built-up I-section members governed by either compression flange yielding or lateral-torsional buckling per AISC 360-22. All the test specimens are three-plate welded singly or doubly symmetric I-section members in which the compression flange is prevented from lateral displacement at all load application points. In total, there are 111 uniform bending and 95 moment gradient tests collected from research investigations ranging from 1960 to 2023. The database is provided as an Excel (.xlsx) file containing six sheets: General Notes, References, Uniform Bending - Imperial, Moment Gradient - Imperial, Uniform Bending - SI, and Moment Gradient - SI. The General Notes sheet contains essential notes regarding the reported data, clarifications behind certain calculated values, and a loading configurations diagram summarizing the loading configurations used in the experimental tests. The References sheet contains the citations of the original sources of the experimental data summarized in the database. The Uniform Bending sheets contain the data for the uniform bending tests, and the Moment Gradient sheets contain the data for the moment gradient tests. Both data sets are provided in imperial and SI units. For the uniform bending tests, the specimen source, specimen name, cross-section details, measured plate yield strengths, loading configurations, unbraced lengths, effective critical unbraced lengths, critical buckling moments, experimental test results, and yield moments are reported. For the moment gradient tests, the moment gradient factor is reported in addition to all the parameters listed above.
