Persistent organic pollutant benchmarks in the Júcar River basin (E Spain)
Description
Dataset of 144 persistent organic pollutants (POPs) levels and a wide range of other chemicals, as identified by non-target screening, in the Júcar River basin (E Spain). The sampling campaign was performed between May and June 2024, only four months prior to the catastrophic floods of October 2024. A total of 51 samples of river water, sediment and different fishes was collected from 15 sampling points along the river catchment. Extractions were optimised according to matrix and analyte type and final determination was performed using High Pressure Liquid Chromatography coupled with High Resolution Mass Spectrometry (HPLC-HRMS/MS) for both target analyses and non-target screening of the extracts. Also, the ecological risk due to the occurrence of all these pollutants in the catchment was assessed by estimating the risk quotient values (RQs).
