Description

In this research performed, the phenomena of air entrainment due to a plunging liquid jet was investigated. The effect of the nozzle diameter, jet length and volumetric flowrate of jet on the air entrained was also examined. Additionally, the volume of air entrained and void fraction was calculated for each experiment run. Lastly, an energy analysis was performed, where the kinetic energy of the jet, potential energy dissipation rate of air and the energy dissipation ratio was determined, looking at the impact of the flowrate, nozzle diameter and the jet length. In the procedure to complete the objectives, the length of the jet was varied three times at lengths of 3, 5 and 7 inches and similarly the nozzle diameters used, were 9/64, 7/32 and 3/8 inches.
