The role of local wave activity in influencing extreme precipitation patterns over North and Northeast China

This code package contains the principal programs used in the study “Finite-Amplitude Local Wave Activity Associated with Extreme Precipitation over North and Northeast China.” The package includes the core code for the structural self-organizing map classification, the calculation of finite-amplitude local wave activity and eddy quasigeostrophic potential vorticity, and the composite analyses, statistical significance tests, and plotting procedures used to produce Figs. 1–8. The scripts are organized according to the main analysis steps and corresponding figures. The original meteorological datasets are not included because of their large volume and data-use restrictions. Users need to obtain the required ERA5, station-based precipitation, and CN05.1 datasets from the respective data providers and configure the input and output paths before running the scripts. Some preprocessing procedures may also need to be adapted to the local file organization, variable names, and coordinate conventions. The package is intended to document the principal computational procedures used in the manuscript rather than to serve as a fully automated reproduction system.
