Organic and inorganic carbon stocks and the drivers of their remobilisation in an abandoned Mediterranean saltpan
Description
Research data for the work "Organic and inorganic carbon stocks and the drivers of their remobilisation in an abandoned Mediterranean saltpan". Sediment_data contains the values of the variables measured in surface sediments: - Sampling_date: Date of the sampling campaign. - Sampling_site_id: Identification number referencing the sample pond and the replicate number. - Flux_CO2_g_m-2_h-1: CO2 fluxes calculated as grams per square meter per hour. - Moisture_%: Percentage of moisture calculated as (sediment wet weight minus dry weight) divided by dry weight and multiplied by 100. - OC_%: Percentage of organic carbon calculated by the loss on ignition method (450ºC, 4h) and the organic matter to organic carbon conversion factor of Craft et al. (1991) for saltmarshes. - IC_%: Percentage of inorganic carbon calculated by the loss on ignition method (950ºC, 2h). - Temperature_C: Temperature measured at the sediment surface in degrees Celsius. - Salinity_g_L-1: Salinity in grams per liter measured by the slurry method (1:2.5). - pH: pH measured by the slurry method (1:2.5). Core_data contains the values of the variables measured for each core section: - Core_id: Core identification number referencing the pond from where it was extracted. - Section_length_cm: Final length of the section corrected by the compaction factor. - Mean_section_depth_cm: Compaction-corrected mean depth of each section. - Dry_weight_g: Dry weight of the section in grams after drying at 60ºC. - Volume_cm3: Fresh volume of the section in cubic centimeters corrected for compaction. - DBD_g_cm-3: Dry Bulk Density calculated as sediment dry weight divided by volume in grams per cubic centimeter, corrected for salt content. - Salinity_g_L-1: Salinity in grams per liter measured by the slurry method (1:2.5).
