Description

The data is collected in Junan County, Linyi City, Shandong Province, China. All participants were L1 speakers of the Junan dialect recruited locally, and they were in good health with no prolonged history of leaving the area. A total of 115 participants (61 females and 54 males) between the ages of 18 and 84 were initially included in the data collection. The recording utilized 12 monosyllabic words with a CV structure covering all seven monophthongs in the phonemic system of the Junan dialect (i.e., /i, y, ɛ, a, ɔ, u, ə/). These words are common verbs, nouns, or surnames in the local area. Formant data in the dataset is extracted under the following procedure: manual vowel segment labeling, LPC formant estimation, Viterbi tracking based on reference formant values, manual verification. The Python scripts used in the procedure can be found the "formant_extract" folder. The formant, mean pitch and duration data can be found the file "Formants.csv" and the basic gender and age information of speakers can be found in the file "SpeakerInfo.csv", where sensitive private information are removed. The statistical analysis of the formant data is conducted in R. The R scripts used in the analysis can be found in the "Formants.Rmd" file.
