Description

This archive contains the data and analysis code supporting the manuscript entitled "Song recognition in Floridian Ormia ochracea reflects multidimensional temporal tuning" by Bitner and colleagues. Female phonotactic responses were measured across combinations of pulse duration and interpulse interval using a speaker-switching assay. The archive includes the original MATLAB data files for 52 flies, a processed trial-level dataset containing 9,413 trials, temporal measurements from four documented Florida host species, and documentation of all variables. Of the behavioural trials, 6,454 contained sufficient movement measurements to calculate directional alignment during both the pre-switch and post-switch stimulus periods and were included in the primary switch-following index analysis. A consolidated MATLAB script reconstructs the trial-level dataset from the original files and reproduces the descriptive analyses and empirical figures. An R Markdown workflow reproduces the statistical analyses, candidate generalized additive mixed-model comparisons, sensitivity analyses, model-based figures, supplementary figures and manuscript tables. Together, these materials allow the reported analyses and figures to be reproduced from the original behavioural data.

Steps to reproduce

Extract folder. Instructions can be found in the "README.md" file. For all analyses and outputs, first run the MATLAB m-file "Ormia_build_data_and_figures.m", then the R markdown file "Ormia_complete_analysis.rmd".
