Geochemical and mineralogical data set for the paper "Assessing the origin, geochemical and isotopic distributions of the high-altitude Vega Verde travertine system (Botijuela, Antofalla Graben, Central Andes)", September 2025.
Description
The Vega Verde travertine system, located in Botijuela, Central Andes, Argentina, provides a unique opportunity to study how facies relate to mineralogy and geochemistry in continental carbonates within an active system in such a distinctive setting as the Altiplano. By examining the geochemical and faciological characteristics, it is possible to construct a coherent geochemical model that allows the identification of zones, products, and processes, which can later be applied to future modeling or prospecting efforts. The dataset associated with the manuscript tables includes the geochemical composition of travertines (major oxides and trace elements), mineralogical interpretations of each sample, stable isotope data for all samples, and isotopic analyses of the associated water.

Steps to reproduce
Manuscript tables provide all the tables linked to the paper in text files. XRD results provide X-ray diffraction (XRD) data as text files for each sample. In addition, isotope equilibrium modeling is supplied in four text files, where the first describes the parameters used in the subsequent three text files. PHRREQC input and output files provide the water parameters used for modeling based on Aguilar (2021) in the "input" text file, along with the corresponding results in the "output" text file.
