Replication data and code for “Shrinking Catchment Areas: Crime, Travel Time, and Effective Accessibility in Chicago”

This repository contains replication code, metadata, variable documentation, and derived result files for the article “Shrinking Catchment Areas: Crime, Travel Time, and Effective Accessibility in Chicago.” The study combines monthly tract-level origin-destination mobility flows, travel-time measures, Chicago Police Department crime records, taxi-payment variables, surveillance-camera proxies, Census/ACS tract characteristics, destination land-use/diversity measures, spatial-lag files, and placebo outputs to study how destination crime changes the travel-time gradient of consumer mobility and effective market access in Chicago during 2018–2019. Some source and processed data files are derived from third-party licensed sources, including SafeGraph mobility data and Google travel-time measures, and may not be publicly redistributable under the applicable data-use agreements. The repository therefore provides code, metadata, variable descriptions, result files, and documentation sufficient for researchers with appropriate data access to reproduce the analysis.
