PREVALENCE OF PAIN IN ACHILLES TENDON IN RECREATIONAL BADMINTON PLAYERS: A CROSS SECTIONAL STUDY

ABSTRACT Background:Badminton game involves sudden jerky movements. Sudden start and stops wear out the body and require plenty of strength and motor skills for acceleration, deceleration and then immediate acceleration. Achilles tendinopathy is commonly seen in badminton players as it involves jumping along withquick changes in direction. Several studies were done on sub elite badminton players but there was a lack of literature in study was conducted on this topic. Objectives:To evaluate the clinical severity of pain in the Achilles tendon in recreational badminton players. Method:The study group consisted of 92 recreational badminton players, 42 males and 50 females, both aged between 16-55 years who are playing badminton for at least once in week. VISA-A questionnaire was used as the outcome tool to measure the severity of pain in the Achilles region. Each subject was given the questionnaire and according to the score they were further evaluated. Results: Prevalence of pain in Achilles tendon in recreational badminton is 19.5%. Conclusion: Pain in Achilles tendon in recreational badminton is mild as compare to sub elite players
