Demographic Predictors of Major Depressive Disorder Among Patients with Iron Deficiency Anemia: A Retrospective Cohort Study
Description
This retrospective study utilized the Epic electronic health record (EHR) database from the University of California, Irvine (UCI) Medical Center. Data was accessed in a de-identified manner through the institution’s Honest Broker service, which ensures secure provision of clinical information for research. The International Classification of Disease, 10th Revision Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) codes were used to identify diagnoses within the database. This study was approved by the Institutional Review Board of UCI Medical Center in Orange, California (IRB No: 4289). Multivariable logistic regression was used to examine whether age bracket, sex, race, and ethnicity were associated with the odds of developing either single episode or recurrent MDD. Adjusted odds ratios (aOR) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were reported. Baseline demographic and clinical characteristics were summarized using descriptive statistics. Statistical significance was defined as p < 0.05. All analyses were performed in RStudio v4.3.2 (Boston, MA).
