Description

The datasets include raw data video observations (1080p with screen resolution 1920x1080 at 30fps) of gravity driven one-dimensional unsaturated media flow experiments on four (4) natural unconsolidated media ranging from very fine pebbles – coarse sand as classified by Wentworth (1992). The Processed data provides instantaneous readings of infiltrating velocity at the media/fluid interface (fluid is water 997kg/m3), infiltrated depth (within the media) and driving pressure head (infiltrating water height) optically extracted from recordings. The data is useful for further investigations (such as calibration and numerical modelling and developing empirically based-infiltration flow models) into unsaturated flows in natural coarse-grained media. The datasets are particularly noteworthy with respect to infiltration into unsaturated porous media where a highly variable infiltrating head is present such as in the upper swash-zone of the coastal zone.
