Curated literature database of metal peroxide nanomaterials for infected wound healing
Description
This dataset contains the curated literature database underlying the review "Metal peroxide nanomaterials at the infected wound interface: reactive oxygen chemistry, bioactive ions and the antimicrobial–regenerative therapeutic window". Four PubMed abstract exports covering metal peroxide nanomaterials (690 records in total) were merged by PubMed identifier and checked by DOI and normalised title, leaving 327 unique records. Each record was annotated across 157 structured fields describing the metal peroxide involved, synthesis route, formulation, hydrogen peroxide, oxygen and metal-ion release, target organisms and resistance phenotype, biofilm outcomes, wound model, cytotoxicity and biosafety data, physicochemical characterisation, translational reporting, and an assigned evidence grade and relevance class. A core scope of 122 records combining a true metal peroxide with an antimicrobial outcome or a wound application is flagged, together with antimicrobial (103) and wound (86) subsets. All fields were extracted from the title, abstract, author block, citation line, DOI and PubMed identifier only. Full texts were not examined, so "NR" means the item is absent from the abstract rather than never measured. All 327 identifiers were verified against PubMed; one retracted record is flagged and excluded from evidence use. The column holding verbatim sentences quoted from the source abstracts has been removed from this public version, and every record retains its PubMed identifier and DOI so the original abstract can be retrieved. A second file provides the source data for Figures 1–3 of the review: records by peroxide group, reporting of critical endpoints, peroxide by application domain, evidence level, strength of evidence for fourteen review questions, and research-gap frequencies. The database supports a critical narrative review, not a systematic review, and no meta-analysis was performed.

Steps to reproduce
1. Four abstract exports were retrieved from PubMed covering metal peroxide nanomaterials, their reactive oxygen chemistry, antimicrobial activity and wound applications, plus a targeted export on strontium peroxide. Search strings and dates: Four PubMed exports were supplied (64, 310, 310 and 6 records; two exports were identical). The search strings and dates were not stored with the files, so the search could not be fully reconstructed ("metal peroxide" OR "metal peroxides" OR "peroxide nanoparticles" OR "calcium peroxide" OR "magnesium peroxide" OR "zinc peroxide" OR "copper peroxide" OR "strontium peroxide") AND ("wound healing" OR "wound infection" OR "infected wound" OR "chronic wound") AND (antimicrobial OR antibacterial OR antibiofilm OR "multidrug resistant" OR MDR), ("strontium peroxide" OR SrO2 OR "metal peroxide" OR "calcium peroxide") AND (hydrogel OR "wound dressing" OR "nanocomposite hydrogel" OR "green synthesis" OR "plant mediated" OR "Moringa oleifera") AND ("wound healing" OR "wound infection" OR antimicrobial OR antibiofilm OR regeneration) 2. The exports were parsed into records keyed by PubMed identifier. Duplicates were merged by identifier and cross-checked by DOI and by normalised title. Two of the four exports were byte-identical. Of 690 records received, 363 duplicates were removed, leaving 327 unique records. 3. Each record was annotated across 157 fields. Explicit fields, including characterisation techniques, organisms, cell lines, animal species, polymers, ions and assays, were extracted by rule-based text matching against controlled vocabularies and then checked by hand. Judgement fields, including relevance class, evidence type, citation tier and therapeutic-window grade, were assigned after reading every abstract. 4. Extraction was restricted to the title, abstract, author and affiliation block, citation line, DOI and PubMed identifier. Full texts were not consulted. "NR" records that an item is absent from the abstract, not that it was never measured. 5. Scope flags were derived: core scope requires a true metal peroxide, or a strontium peroxide of unconfirmed phase, combined with an antimicrobial outcome or a wound application, excluding retracted and out-of-scope records. Antimicrobial and wound subsets are nested within core scope. 6. All 327 identifiers were queried against the PubMed E-utilities esummary endpoint and compared on title, DOI, journal, publication year and first author. Discrepancies and one retracted record are documented in the associated article's supplementary material. 7. Figure source data were computed from the annotated database by counting records against the stated criteria. The counting criteria appear in each sheet of the figure source-data file.
