Dataset on the assessment of the physical condition and spatial layout of the Academic Library and CAD-based visual layout plans for library space analysis and planning

This dataset presents the raw and processed data used to assess the physical condition and spatial layout of the academic library at Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU) Alijis Campus and to develop CAD-based visual layout plans for library space analysis and planning. The dataset includes field observation notes, physical measurements of library spaces, records of functional space allocation, survey questionnaire responses from administrators, faculty members, and students, weighted mean summaries, and CAD-generated floor plans and proposed visual layout plans. Survey responses were gathered using a structured five-point Likert-scale instrument to evaluate the visual layout plans in terms of clarity, usefulness for space analysis and planning, ability to identify functional areas, and support for future library improvement and renovation. The dataset can support studies on academic library facilities, spatial planning, space utilization, and evidence-based library management.

Steps to reproduce
This dataset was generated from an academic library spatial planning study conducted at the CHMSU Alijis Campus Library, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, Philippines. To reproduce the dataset, the existing library facility was first assessed through direct observation, walkthrough inspection, and review of available floor references, room functions, and facility records to document the current spatial layout, service areas, circulation zones, and user spaces. Actual measurements of library spaces, including reading areas, collection areas, service spaces, study areas, offices, circulation paths, and support rooms, were taken on site. These measurements were used to prepare digital CAD floor plans of the existing academic library. The CAD outputs documented room dimensions, functional labels, circulation routes, entrances/exits, and area allocations. Based on the identified deficiencies and planning needs, proposed CAD-based library space designs and visual layout plans were also developed to improve space allocation, accessibility, circulation, functional zoning, and user convenience. A structured questionnaire in English was then prepared to evaluate the existing library condition, deficiencies and compliance gaps, CAD-generated floor plans, proposed CAD-based space designs, functional space allocation, and visual layout plans. The instrument used a five-point Likert scale (5 = Strongly Agree to 1 = Strongly Disagree). The evaluation dataset was obtained from 13 expert respondents composed of librarians, library staff, engineers, and draftsmen selected for their knowledge of library operations, building layout interpretation, and space planning. Survey responses were encoded in spreadsheet format and organized according to six dataset components: existing physical condition and spatial layout, deficiencies and compliance gaps, validation of CAD-generated floor plans, evaluation of proposed CAD-based library space designs, evaluation of functional space allocation, and evaluation of visual layout plans. The data were processed using frequency counts, percentages, and weighted mean values. The final dataset package included the questionnaire, raw survey response files, processed weighted mean summary tables, respondent distribution data, CAD-generated floor plans of the existing library, proposed CAD-based layouts, and visual layout plans. Software/tools used: CAD software for floor plan drafting and layout development; spreadsheet software for data encoding, tabulation, and weighted mean computation; and word processing software for questionnaire preparation and dataset documentation.
