Supplementary data for Do on-farm resource savings reduce whole-system emergy requirements? A counterfactual assessment of groundwater-irrigation removal and maize sourcing in a smallholder dairy system
Description
This dataset contains the supplementary data and reproducibility files associated with the manuscript “Do on-farm resource savings reduce whole-system emergy requirements? A counterfactual assessment of groundwater-irrigation removal and maize sourcing in a smallholder dairy system”. It includes four Excel workbooks documenting: (1) the reconstructed Baseline configuration and emergy accounting; (2) Scenario 1, which evaluates the removal of groundwater irrigation; (3) Scenario 2, which evaluates partial substitution of internally supplied maize grain with purchased grain, including sensitivity analyses; and (4) the cross-study comparison and GEB12 harmonization. The files include calculation formulas, physical feed and crop balances, data-source traceability, methodological assumptions, renewable-fraction assignments, unit emergy values, and model checks used to support the results reported in the manuscript.

Steps to reproduce
Open the four Excel workbooks in numerical order. Supplementary_01_Baseline_Texcoco.xlsx reconstructs the reference configuration and Baseline emergy accounting. Supplementary_02_Scenario1_Groundwater.xlsx applies the groundwater-irrigation removal scenario. Supplementary_03_Scenario2_Maize.xlsx applies the maize-substitution scenario and contains the substitution-gradient and one-at-a-time sensitivity analyses. Supplementary_04_CrossStudy.xlsx documents the cross-study comparison and GEB12 harmonization. Each workbook includes a README sheet, calculation formulas, input/source traceability, methodological assumptions, and model checks. No external workbook links are required to reproduce the reported calculations.
