Description

Assessing personality in early childhood requires measures that function reliably across languages and cultural settings. This study examined the psychometric properties of the Bosnian adaptation of the Inventory of Child Individual Differences (ICID) using 135 maternal and 110 paternal reports of 137 children aged 4-6 years, including 108 matched mother-father pairs. Analyses examined internal consistency, interparent agreement, associations with temperament, and the fit of previously proposed four- and five-factor models. Internal consistency coefficients ranged from .685 to .921, while absolute-agreement intraclass correlations ranged from .367 to .652. Associations with the Croatian EASI Temperament Survey generally followed theoretically expected patterns. Neither proposed higher-order model adequately represented the data. Exploratory analyses with oblimin rotation identified three broadly comparable dimensions across informants: adaptive and self-regulated functioning, active social engagement, and negative emotionality. The solutions accounted for 70.9% of the variance in maternal reports and 73.2% in paternal reports. The findings provide preliminary support for cautious research use of most ICID facet scores. The higher-order structure requires independent replication, and the present evidence does not establish suitability for screening or individual assessment.
