Cybersecurity and Resilience Assessment of Financial Institutions in Ethiopia: MSc Thesis and Article Manuscript (Addis Ababa University, 2025)
Description
This record contains the MSc thesis "Cybersecurity and Resilience Assessment of Financial Institutions in Ethiopia" (Addis Ababa University, School of Commerce, Department of Accounting and Finance, May 2025) and an article manuscript based on it. The study used a descriptive and explanatory design. Primary data were collected through an online survey of IT and cybersecurity professionals in three groups of financial institutions licensed by the National Bank of Ethiopia, supplemented by expert interviews. A total of 120 questionnaires were distributed across the three lines of defence; together they contain 494 diagnostic statements covering the five domains of the FFIEC Cybersecurity Assessment Tool (cyber risk management and oversight; threat intelligence and collaboration; cybersecurity controls; external dependency management; cyber incident management and resilience). Maturity was rated on a five-level scale (1 = Baseline, 2 = Evolving, 3 = Intermediate, 4 = Advanced, 5 = Innovative). All Group A institutions, 80% of Group B and 16% of Group C responded. Secondary data came from published annual reports, regulatory documents and public sources. The record contains the two documents only. Institution-level survey responses are not included, in line with the anonymity and confidentiality commitments made to participants; aggregated results are reported in the thesis. Correction (version 2, October 2026): the description of version 1 referred to an audit of 30 institutions, a 153-control instrument, a one-way ANOVA with F = 159.23, a correlation of r = 0.88 and a "Golden Hour" analysis. These do not appear in the deposited documents, and the description has been corrected accordingly. The files are unchanged.
