Description

This repository contains the datasets and supporting materials underlying the systematic review entitled "Harnessing Nature's Arsenal: Venom and Toxins in Cancer Therapeutics - A Systematic Review". The review was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA 2020) guidelines and was prospectively registered with PROSPERO (Registration number: CRD42024539863). Literature searches were conducted in PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar between 8th April and 30th May 2024. A total of 2091 records were identified, of which 82 studies met the eligibility criteria and were included in the evidence synthesis. The repository contains the PRISMA checklist, PRISMA flow diagram, search strategy, data extraction table that describes the characteristics of each included study, and risk-of-bias assessment to enhance transparency, reproducibility, and reuse of the review data.

Steps to reproduce

This dataset was generated through a systematic review conducted according to the PRISMA 2020 guidelines and registered in PROSPERO. The literature searches were carried out in PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar using predefined search terms related to venom, toxins, and cancer. Records retrieved were imported into Zotero, where duplicate records were removed. Studies were screened independently by two reviewers based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data was extracted from full-text articles that met the eligibility criteria using a standard extraction form. Risk of bias was assessed using ToxRTool for in vitro studies, SYRCLE's Risk of Bias tool for animal studies, and ROBINS-I for non-randomized clinical studies. The extracted data were compiled into Microsoft Excel files and analyzed descriptively for qualitative synthesis. All files required to reproduce the review findings, including the data extraction table, risk of bias assessments, PRISMA checklist and diagram, and other supporting documents, are included in the repository.
